This week’s banner image belongs to Chick Gerston. Thanks so much for contributing, Chick!

Image details from Chick:
This picture was taken along the West Fork Hiking Trail in October 2006. It was taken mid-day using a Canon Rebel xTI. It was a great year for color. Some years are better than others. The three boys were there at just the right time; as they say, chance favors the prepared mind.
The West Fork of the Oak Creek lends itself to some really pretty color, not available everywhere in Arizona. Some of the rock formations are extremely colorful and appear in magazines from time to time.

This week’s banner image was submitted by Ed Mertz. Thanks Ed!

Image Details from Ed:
The photograph was taken during a Keith Carter workshop at the 2010 Palm Springs Photo Festival. The model, “Tamara,” posed for the group in a number of settings. In addition to modeling, she is an accomplished climber and hiker, and leads group tours in places like Yosemite. This image was taken with a Canon IDsMarkIII and the ubiquitous Canon EF24-105 f/4 L IS USM lens. The shot was hand held at 1/1250 sec, F/8 at 84mm, ISO 400. Only natural light was used at about 10:30 a.m. California time. The image was converted to b&w within CS5 Adobe Camera Raw and enhanced using the Grayscale Mixer. The banner was cropped from a 27 MB color image.
